Mike Nova comments: "С кем поведёшься, от того и наберёшься": "You become like those whom you hang out with". I think that Mr. Putin these days appears to be more slit-eyed than ever.
The hearty and ambivalent laughter during this press-conference which appeared to be directed at Mr. Putin, in a subtle oriental way, was a response to his played up indifference to the question about Mr. Obama's absence. Mr. Putin tried to cover up, rather helplessly, his deep disappointment and the feeling of been hurt, which show on his face in this video so clearly, and attempted to deflect this question with the reference to the US "internal problems". This impression was only confirmed by the Chinese journalist's last question at this press-conference, incredibly lengthy and confused (just like most other Chinese questions - they sounded more like the notes for pseudo-doctoral dissertations), which carried the overtones of thundering but also rather helpless and empty rage. Other than that, the whole event appeared to be rather boring, dull and inconsequential.
"Sic transit gloria mundi."
