The US Coastguard has sent The Polar Star to help free a Russian research vessel and Chinese icebreaker from Antarctic ice, responding to requests from the Russian, Chinese, and Australian governments for aid. The ships became stuck on Christmas eve but stranded passengers have been keeping themselves busy with movies, impromptu yoga classes, and New Year's celebrations.
